What does “Black History Month” Mean to You?
Because It Means Nothing To The DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki!

77.1 Upon examining the February month on the DSBN website calendar, it is evident that the month has been designated as Black History Month. However, there is not even a single mention of any notable Black History day on the calendar.

77.2 Despite school boards and teachers always falling back on the old reliable and stereotypical Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Bob Marley, Barrack Obama, Martian Luther King Jr. and Malcom X discussion, and their desire to constantly remind Black students that their only history involves either slavery, segregation, acts of rebellion/violence or the first Black individual to achieve or do something.

77.3 Unbelievably, there are many more positive Black individuals that the DSBN can discuss, which results in not all discussions have to involve slavery, segregation, acts of rebellion/violence or the first Black individual to achieve or do something.

77.4 But rather than genuinely devoting time to researching alternative Black-related subjects for “Black History Month” that would enable ALL students to learn something other than the yearly standbys by instead promoting the positive role Blacks play in society. But the teachers and schools of the DSBN consistently just want to emphasize just those aspects of Black History that are essentially bad, reinforcing and reminding the Black students of their own terrible past of enduring colonialism.

77.5 It is amazing that with their own acknowledgement of it being “Black History Month” they could not have at least found one day out of twenty eight to even acknowledge a Black individual or positive event in history? This would have been a perfect opportunity for the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki to really prove that they do care about the “voices” of Black students. They could have easily and simple add one significant historic topics like;

• February 4, 1913: Rosa Parks Actual Birthday verses December 01 – Rosa Parks Day ( They could in fact keep both )
• February 5, 1934: Baseball Great Henry “Hank” Aaron Birthday
• February 6, 1945: Singer & Entertainer Official Bob Marley Day and Birthday
• February 6, 1993: Tennis Great Arthur Dies
• February 9, 1995: Bernard Harris Jr. becomes first African American to walk in space
• February 10, 2007: Pres. Barak Obama formally announced the start of his Presidential campaign.
• February 12, 1809: Abraham Lincoln Birthday
• February 13, 1920: Andrew Rube Foster creates National Association of Professional Baseball Club (Negro League)
• February 14, 1920: Mammie Smith became the first African American woman to make a playing record.
• February 15, 1965: Singer & Entertainer Nat King Cole Dies
• February 17, 1942: Huey P. Newton Birthday
• February 17, 1963: Basketball Great Michael Jeffrey Jordan Birthday
• February 19, 1992: Boyz N The Hood Director John Singleton is the First Black Director Nominated for an Academy Award
• February 19, 2002: Vonetta Flowers Becomes First Black Athlete to Win Gold at Winter Olympics
• February 20, 1988: Rihanna Birthday
• February 20, 1984: Tervor Noah Birthday

77.6 The DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and its staff, who openly exhibit cultural bias, are unwilling to even look into and talk about these simple google searched subjects for whatever reason. Instead of putting in even the minimal amount of effort, the DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and its workforce simply like to just regurgitate the same old “Black Hero’s” year after year. How does anyone expect ANY students to become interested in “Black History” when you learn nothing new year after year?

77.7 It is this repeated behavior by the DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and its cultural bias workforce that shows their unwillingness to listen, learn and participate to change.

77.8 With the amount of money that is spent by the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki on Anti-Black Social Awareness via the DSBN website Equity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism, DSBN Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism.

77.9 One should have presumed that by now someone, ANYONE would have figured out that maybe increasing the amount of topics that are discussed during “Black History Month” might help Caucasians and other students enjoy and learn to understand that NOT EVERYTHING RELATING TO BLACK HISTORY has to have a negative and unhappy connotation attached to it, and that “Black History” encompasses much more than just conversations that end up relating to slavery, segregation, acts of rebellion/violence or the first Black individual to achieve or do something.

77.10 For a school board that pretends to be so conscious about inclusion, diversity, and acceptance. By looking at their month of February calendar and there not being a single “Day” of relevance for Blacks to celebrate, SAYS A LOT! But alas, Blacks are not deserving of mention by the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki on the school calendar alongside such days of important and historic value like;

77.11 Yes, Rosa Parks, Bob Marley, Huey P. Newton, Henry “Hank” Aaron and Michael Jeffrey Jordan are not worthy to share the same stage with the politically correct and hot voter topics of the day – International Non-Binary People’s Day!

77.12 It is laughable, disgusting, bizarre and offensive to ALL Black familes, that people like Rosa, Bob, Huey, Hank and Michael, who influenced billions of people, over decades and made such significant contributions to the Black race and society as a whole are completely blacklisted, disregarded and their accomplishments marginalized by the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki. While they proudly promote and acknowledge International Non-Binary People’s Day as a more important “Day” to recognize and celebrate!

77.13 There is nothing one can do but shake their head in amazement at this lack of bad judgment.

77.14 So rather than just adding a few Black individuals or events to the month of February to allow Blacks students to celebrate their own, within their own “Black History Month.” The DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki decided that it is better to choose sporadic and random dates throughout the entire year.

• December 01 – Rosa Parks Day
• December 02 – International Day of the Abolition of Slavery
• January 15 – Martin Luther King Jr Day
• March 10 – Harriet Tubman Day
• March 21 – International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
• March 25 – International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Slavery
• May 17 – Malcolm X Day May 21 World Day of Cultural Diversity
• June 19 Juneteenth
• August 1 Emancipation Day

77.15 AND EVERY ONE of these well-chosen dates is dedicated to remembering either the enslavement of Black people, or about civil rights leaders, some of whom were brutally and violently murdered! What a great set of negative talking points for the young Black students of the DSBN to learn and have to talk about again this year!

77.16 What the DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and the racist workforce culture do not seem to understand is that Blacks have more to offer to the conversation/ “Black History Month” than slavery, segregation, acts of rebellion/violence or the first Black individual to achieve or do something. The DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and their racist culture continue to fail to understand that Blacks DO NOT ALWAYS want to talk about the negative aspect of their “Black History!”

77.17 We certainly do not see the DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and the racist workforce culture talking about the negative Caucasian History that they have imposed upon the world such as;

• Colonialism,
• Canadian slave owners,
• Systemic racism within Canada Judicial System,
• The DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki racist, sexist and discriminatory hiring and promotion practice,
• Queen Elizabeth II and her monarchy’s historical role in supporting the Black slave trade,
• When Canada forced Japanese Canadians into internment camps during WWII,
• Justin Trudeau Blackface repeated behavior.

77.18 Why is it that the DSBN, Warren Hoshizaki and the racist Caucasian workforce refuse to address and discuss these facts over the remaining months of the academic year? Why is there no “Caucasian History Month” on the DSBN calendar so that everyone can address how Caucasians contribute to all the negative history that is highlighted during “Black History Month?” Because it is a well-known fact that conversations about racist roles played by Caucasians are ALWAYS off topic for obvious reasons!

77.19 It is clear that the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki and the cultural bias DSBN workforce do not understand that not everything associated with Blacks is negative and related to racial injustice. Just look at the DSBN school calendar, look at their behavior, look at their workforce and the incidents of racial abuse against the applicant that has played out over the past two years.

77.20 The fact that the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki celebrate “Gender Equality Week” only serves to heighten the unease surrounding this situation—we know that for a little under two decades, the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki have been actively discriminating against men and racialized men and women when it comes to hiring and promoting within the DSBN organization! It’s all so disgustingly ironic!

77.21 If the DSBN is so INSISTANT on always discussing slavery, segregation, acts of rebellion/violence or the first Black individual to achieve or do something as it relates to Blacks. Let’s try at least to discuss;

• The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963
• The Million Man March on October 16, 1995.
• Selma to Montgomery March, March 7 – 25 1965
• Los Angeles Riots April 29, 1992
• Barack Obama Becomes 44th – US President January 20 2008
• The Black Lives Matter Movement
• George Floyd Riots
• Negro League
• Slave Trader Christopher Columbus
• Or maybe the racist, sexist and discriminatory behavior of the DSBN and their Director of Education Warren Hoshizaki for almost the past twenty years.

77.22 Why won’t they, though? Because, like the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki did for nearly twenty years, they wish to conceal the truth and maintain the ideal of innocence for themselves, just as the DSBN’s biased culture does with their white fragility about the abusive, Caucasian colonialism they introduced into the world!

77.23 Viewing the DSBN school calendar clearly proves that the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki never gave any serious second thoughts of listing a few significant Black individuals or events on their political correct calendar—aside from their play it safe approach of featuring stereotypical Black figures that White people find admirable—is a gross form of disrespect towards Black parents and their children who attend their schools

77.24 As previously stated the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki have never even pretended to act as if to have any concern for the rights or feelings of Black people especially the victim/applicant. Because if they truly did, there would have been a lot more “Black History” content on the DSBN calendar beside an empty month of February.

77.25 Instead the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki marginalized “Black History” down to a couple of Black activists, who were brutally and violently murdered and slavery!

77.26 Remember ACTIONS speak louder than any words the DSBN and Warren Hoshizaki could possibly say on this matter! It is all an act!
